BPSC Syllabus Explained: Prelims, Mains and Interview in Simple Words
Table of Contents
The BPSC Combined Competitive Examination has three stages: Preliminary, Main and Interview. Knowing what each stage tests helps you avoid wasted effort.
Stage 1: Preliminary exam
This is an objective, multiple-choice paper on General Studies. It is a screening test, and its marks are used only to shortlist candidates for the Mains.
- History of India and Bihar
- Indian Polity and governance
- Geography of India and Bihar
- Indian economy and Bihar economy
- Science, environment and current affairs
Stage 2: Main exam
The Mains is descriptive and tests how well you can write. It includes qualifying language papers and General Studies papers. Answer writing practice matters more here than reading one more book.
Stage 3: Interview
The interview checks your personality, awareness of Bihar and clarity of thought. It is a conversation, not an exam of facts.
Tip: Always confirm marks, papers and negative marking from the latest official notification, as the pattern is revised from time to time.
